Local airport to welcome more flights, new jetway soon more flights soon

The Williamsport Regional Airport is back up to two flights per day after a winter directive from American Airlines limited the airport to one flight daily due to congestion in Philadelphia throughout the holiday season.

“That’s over with. As of today, we’re back at two,” Executive Director Thomas Hart said Thursday.

In April, the airport expects to be back up to three flights per day, he said.

“It’s hard on the area,” Hart said of the single daily flights. “Your availability’s cut down and these flights fill pretty rapidly.”

The directive is just one of several reasons the airport continues its efforts to draw in a second airline, he added.

In another matter, the passenger loading bridge, or jetway, is expected to be installed starting Feb. 25. The installation will take about three days and be completed Feb. 28, Hart told the Williamsport Municipal Airport Authority board.

“Weather pending,” he added.

This morning, Verizon and the Federal Aviation Administration were expected to gather at the airport to switch the phone lines between the old and new terminals, allowing demolition of the old building to begin, Hart said.

In other business, the board approved the following bill payments: $19,447 to Master Mechanical Corporation; $110,174 to Master Mechanical Corporation; $15,070 to LTS Plumbing and Heating Inc.; and $6,623 to

Lobar Inc.
