Rodney Kenneth Morgans, of South Williamsport, passed away at his home on Aug. 4, 2015.
He was born at Williamsport on May 2, 1926. He was the son of the late John and Amanda (Eiswerth) Morgans.
Rodney was a lifelong resident of South Williamsport. He graduated from South Williamsport High School in 1944. He attended Bloomsburg University and was inducted into the Bloomsburg University’s Athletic Hall of Fame. In both his senior year and during college Rodney played on championship football teams. Rodney was a teacher, principal and coach in the South Williamsport School District. In 1961 he had a perfect 10-0 season in football. The West Central Ave. Stadium was dedicated in 1941 when he was a member of the football team and was later rededicated the Rodney K. Morgans Stadium in 1988. Rodney was a long time member of West Branch League and was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
Rodney was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Rodney was married to the late Patricia J. Morgans on April 18, 1949. Together they shared 66 years of marriage.
Rodney is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Mark LeVan, and his granddaughter, Lyndy; a son, Rod and his deceased fiancee’s daughter, Christa Gehr and her children Caleb, Isabella, and Lainey. Also surviving is a special granddaughter, Stacy Herlocher and his beloved caregiver, Madia Grigsby, of Philadelphia.
In addition to his late parents and his wife, Patricia, he was also predeceased by his son’s fiancee, Elaine Eck and his grandson, Mitch LeVan.
Services will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Aug. 10, 2015, at 9:30 a.m. with Father Steven D. McGough officiating.
Interment will follow in the Wildwood Cemetery and Crematory, Williamsport, PA 17701 with military honors being accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County.
