Jay Hilsher, 84, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017, at home.
Jay was born in Williamsport on Nov. 28, 1932, a son of John H. and Beatrice E. Davenport Hilsher Sr.
He was a 1950 graduate of the former St. Mary's High School. He taught printing at the former WACC, now Pennsylvania College of Technology, and was the director of their printing department for 16 years. He went on to be the owner of Hilsher Graphics for 46 years.
Jay was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Council 366. He was also a former board member of Williamsport Wyrope Credit Union, president of the Williamsport Management Club, South Williamsport Lions Club, Rotary Club and served as a volunteer with the Lycoming County Historical Society.
He and his wife, the former Sally E. Spaeth would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary Dec. 26, 2017. Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Stephanie (Patrick) Jackson of Cogan Station, Cynthia (Richard) Dorr of Glenmoore, John H. (Susan) Hilsher III of South Williamsport and Jayme Hilsher of Williamsport; nine grandchildren, Nathan, Brian, Carolyn, Steven, Kristin, Andrée, Samantha, Jason and Christopher, as well as 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William H. Hilsher.
The family will receive family and friends at the Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport on Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 800 W. Central Ave., South Williamsport, with Msgr. Stephen D. McGough officiating followed by burial at Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions may be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church, c/o St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701 or to the Lycoming County Historical Society, 858 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
