Janet Alberts Nicoll, 95, of Loyalsock Township, passed away Sept. 16, 2018, at The Gatehouse.

Janet was born July 21, 1923, in Hughesville, the daughter of the late Edward and Laura (Weaver) Houseknecht.

As a child she was a member of the Lutheran Church, and a girl scout. She was a 1941 graduate of Hughesville High School. During World War II, Janet and her sister, Marian, operated Houseknecht dairy and delivered milk seven days a week by horse and buggy. In 1945, Janet married her first husband, Ralph Alberts, and later moved to Williamsport. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Loyalsock, a volunteer fire company member, Beta Sigma Phi sorority and she taught Sunday school for 22 years at the Market Street Methodist Church. She worked at Willards Saddlery, Britts, the Presbyterian Home as an assistant to the administrators and volunteered at Divine Providence Hospital.

In 1988, Janet married her second husband, William Nicoll, and moved to Dallas, Pa. There she was a member of the Ladies Shrine Auxiliary at Irem Temple. They move to Venice, Fla., in 1994, where she joined the Lutheran Church and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Shrine in Venice. Janet returned to Williamsport in 2003 and joined the St. Luke Lutheran Church and belonged to Hillside Senior Citizen and Amity Club.

Janet is survived by sons, Ed (Linda) Alberts and Steve Alberts; her daughter, Jane (Jeff) Bubb; several stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 1400 Market St., Williamsport, with Rev. Jeffrey Le Crone officiating. Family and friends will be received in the church from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Pleasant Hills Cemetery, Hughesville.
