Local roundup: Balint scores 4 in Montoursville win

Kyleigh Balint recorded four goals to help Montoursville defeat Mifflinburg in girls soccer on Wednesday, 4-1. Bella Masias and Mackenzie Cohick added assists for the Warriors. Montoursville (2-0) led 3-1 at the half with the Wildcats’ lone goal coming from Riley Griffith.

Madie Majcher scored the game winning goal in double overtime with just 18 seconds to play to give Warrior Run a season-opening 2-1 win over Hughesville.

Williamson and North Penn-Mansfield played to a 1-1 draw. Mansfield’s Eva Rice scored with 25:44 to play in the first half before Williamson’s Kirsten Green tied the game up.

Caitlyn Findlay recorded a hat trick in a 3-1 win over Central Mountain. The Wildcats’ goal came from Sloane Tressler on an assist by Tara Resse.

Macy McCarthy recorded a hat trick and added an assist as Sullivan County blanked St. John Neumann, 8-0.

Wellsboro fell to Troy, 8-2. Wellsboro’s two goals came from Alivia Kennedy and Alyssa Yungwirth.

South Williamsport lost to Southern Columbia, 2-1. The Mounties’ goal came from Amilee Miller.

• In girls tennis, Wellsboro defeated Galeton, 4-3. Wellsboro’s Gorgia Marensky won at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2.

Montoursville remained undefeated with a 5-0 win over Bloomsburg. Maddy Reeves won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Olivia Evans won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Lexi Markunas’ win at No. 3 singles paired with Lewisburg sweeping the doubles competition helped the Green Dragons defeat Mifflinburg, 3-2.

Montgomery defeated Towanda, 6-1. Katie Forrestal earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles for the Red Raiders. Towanda’s win came at No. 1 doubles.

• Lewisburg’s Delaney Humphrey finished second in girls cross country at Southern Columbia with a time of 19:37, roughly 30 seconds behind Danville’s Elaina Klinger.

• In boys cross country, Lewisburg’s Jason Stanko finished sixth in a time of 17:35 at Southern Columbia.

• The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team fell to No. 3 Kutztown, 5-0.

Mansfield dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime to Shippensburg. After a scoreless first half, Alexis Bittel scored 24 seconds in for her first goal of the season.

• Larissa Motts’ eighth minute goal proved to be all Mansfield needed to hand Slippery Rock its first loss of the season in a 1-0 final in field hockey.

Motts took the first two shots of the game with her second finding the back of the cage at the 7:07 mark. It was the first of the season and fourth of her career for the sophomore.

• With a four-goal outburst in the first half, the Lycoming College men’s soccer team defeated Susquehanna, 5-0, winning the Battle of the Boot for the third straight year by the largest margin in the trophy game’s history.

Penn College fell to Keystone, 2-0. Keystone scored both goals in the first half and held a 12-10 shot advantage.

• Despite three tightly-contested sets, the Lycoming College volleyball team fell in its MAC Commonwealth opener, 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-22) at Alvernia.

Lycoming freshman Kiannah Titus led the Warriors with nine kills, eight digs and two blocks and sophomore Lilly Singleton added seven kills and two digs.
