Local roundup: Fox’s shots lift Loyalsock over Mifflinburg in double OT

By From staff reports 6 min read

In girls basketball, Maddie Fox drained two game-tying field goals, one at the end of regulation and one at the end of the first extra period to lead the Loyalsock Lancers to a dramatic 67-63 double-overtime victory over Mifflinburg in their season-opener. Summer McNulty had a game high 25 points while going 8 of 9 from the line for the Lancers.

Sydney Hoffman (13 points) and Jordan Hartman (10 points) each scored in double figures for Warrior Run, but Juniata hit eight more free-throws than the Defenders in a 50-46 victory.

Megan Weber scored a game-high 17 points and South Williamsport used a 28-19 halftime advantage en rout to a 46-39 win over Muncy. Sasha McMonigle led the Indians with 14 points.

Galeton fell behind, 33-16 at the half, and it couldn't recover in its 66-32 loss to Otto Eldred.

• In boys basketball, Noah Rymsza scored a career-high 31 points and Kolby Moyer added 18, but Muncy fell to Canton, 61-60. Canton outscored Muncy by just one in the fourth quarter and Michael Smithers (20), Cooper Kitchen (16) and Zach Rentzel (13) combined for 43 points.

Isaiah Savage scored a game-high 22 points and Hughesville hit 30 free throws as Hughesville defeated Troy, 65-52. Clayton Poust added 18, Devon Braden posted six points and 10 rebounds and Justus Leighow tallied five assists and three steals.

• In boys swimming, Matthew Beard was victorious in two individual events but Williamsport fell to Lewisburg, 92-90.

• In girls swimming, Williamsport swept all three relay events in a convincing, 101-84 victory over Lewisburg.

• In college wrestling, with just eight seconds on the mat, Lycoming College senior 197-pounder Bradley Miccio has earned his first career Middle Atlantic Conference Wrestler of the Week award.

In Miccio's lone match, he made quick work of Penn State-Behrend's Sam Tubbs, posting a pin in eight seconds, helping Lycoming to a 42-8 dual meet win.

• After becoming the first Lycoming College men's soccer player to earn Academic All-American honors, senior goalkeeper Chris Solecki added another honor as he was named a Second Team United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-East Region selection.

Solecki, a biology: anatomy and physiology major, is the ninth Warrior to be named to the All-East Region Scholar team and first since Ethan Wilston and Trevor Bishop earned honorable mention in 2014. He is the first Warrior to earn higher than all-region status.

• The Lock Haven University women's basketball team was voted 10th in the Division II Sports Information Directors Association Atlantic Region poll after a historic win over Gannon on Saturday.

The win was the Bald Eagles first road win at Gannon since 1992 and their sixth overall win in a row, a mark which is their longest since the 2005-06 season. The Bald Eagles currently sit at 7-1 overall and a 3-0 conference mark, which are both Bald Eagle bests since 2005-06.
