Ralph Thomas Derone III, Derone's Dynamite Dogs frontrunner and River Valley Transit partner, got a surprising visit from state Governor Tom Wolf when he was on his hot dog tour for national Hot Dog Day.
"He stopped at five different locations and it just so happened that we were chosen as one of the five places for him to stop at," Derone said.
Wolf had been seen visiting Abe's Hot Dogs in Wilkes-Barre on his Instagram page when a friend of Derone's had commented to stop by Derone's shop if he was in the area. Derone himself continued by saying that Wolf should stop in if he ever comes to Williamsport. A week later, Wolf walked through the doors of the business.
"Oh man, that's the governor," Derone said. "No matter what political side you poll, it's an honor to serve someone like that."
That day the business was under-staffed and too busy for Derone to take the time to shake Wolf's hand or even say hello to him.
Though there was no time for the two to connect, Derone stated that the publicity from the hot dog tour definitely helped bring more business and publicity. Just a few days later, Derone's Dynamite Dogs was also placed on the PAeats page in the top 25 of the state's hot dog bucket list.
"That was also an honor," Derone said.
Derone's Dynamite Dogs can be found at 100 W. Third St. but they also have a mobile hot dog cart that sets up at New Trail Brewing Company, 240 Arch St., at least once a week. The location in partnership with River Valley, has only been open a year.
They have many options of gourmet style hot dogs, vegetarian style dogs, salads and homemade potato chips and French fries.
