Milk truck crashes on Route 15 spur in Williamsport

For the second time in just over four weeks, a tractor-trailer truck traveling south on the Route 15 spur in Williamsport crashed and went over an embankment about 7 a.m. today.
A Williamsport police officer and a passerby assisted the driver out of the wreckage, city fire officials said. The driver, a man in his 50s from Troy, was taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport to get medical treatment. His injuries did not appear life threatening, police said.
Fire officials estimated that close to 150 feet of guardrail was taken out by the crash.
The rig was a tanker truck carrying an estimated 10,000 gallons of milk. It was unknown how much, if any, of the milk spilled out.
Bressler’s Towing had two heavy-duty wreckers on the scene within 30 minutes. The spur was expected to be closed to traffic for several hours, a city patrol supervisor told a reporter.
This same scenario played out on the Route 15 South spur when a rig crashed on July 8, and on May 2.
The state Department of Transportation was also on the scene in a matter of minutes after the accident.
