Muncy Borough Council deals with storm water issues

By Mike Reuther 2 min read

Muncy Borough Council at its August meeting approved a $5,010 payment for repair of a section of its storm sewer system.

The repair work represents just a section of the borough's storm sewer network requiring upgrades, according to borough officials.

"This entire system is failing, and it needs to be cleaned out," Councilman Ed Fiegles said.

The recent repairs focused on problems in the storm system around Journey Bank at Main and New streets after the discovery of a hole in either the pavement or ground.

Wet weather in early August likely exacerbated the system's ongoing issues.

"At the bank, the water had nowhere to go," Feigles said.

Borough Manager Charles Hall said an additional catch basin could help remedy at least some of the problems.

Council went ahead and approved Feigles, who has expertise in storm water issues, as a part-time borough employee on an as-needed basis at an hourly rate of $16 per hour.

In other matters, council approved Cohen Law Group to negotiate the borough's cable TV franchise agreement with Comcast.

Cohen, which will be paid $8,900 for the work, has expertise in such negotiations, according to Hall.

The present contract is expiring.

The vote by council was 5-2 to approve Cohen.

Voting yes were Feigles, George Henry, Tara Ashby, Scott Delany, and Ryan Scruggs.

Voting no were Richard Sutton and Cindy Appleman.

"I don't like the amount they are charging," Sutton said.

Added Appleman, "I think that we need more information."

Council approved the purchase of computer software from Informant Technologies, Landsdale, for the borough's police reporting system at a cost of $10,550.

Council voted to advertise the amendment of an ordinance that would extend no-parking along the west side of Buffington Avenue to ease traffic concerns near the high school on school days.

The amendment is expected to be voted upon by council at its next meeting, Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Council voted to hold that meeting at Waldron Park on Green Street.

Starting at /week.
