Georgetown defeated Bucknell, 29-21, on Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
The Hoyas (2-4, 1-2 PL) scored two touchdowns during the final six minutes of regulation to defeat the Bison (1-6, 0-3 PL) despite freshman quarterback Ethan Grady connecting with senior wide receiver Dominic Lyles for three touchdowns in his first collegiate start.
Grady finished the game with 162 yards on 12 completions, with five going for 110 yards to Lyles. This represented Lyles’s second career 100-yard game and a new career-high total in receiving yards; he also became the first Bison to catch three touchdown passes in a single tilt since Jake Hartman did so in a 27-24 overtime victory over Lafayette on Nov. 1, 2014.
Lyles’s third touchdown catch came at the third quarter’s 9:46 mark, capping a nine-play, 72-yard march that gave Bucknell a 21-13 advantage. It proved the last time the Bison would put points on the board, however, and Georgetown ultimately scored 16 unanswered to emerge victorious.
Bucknell held the Hoyas to a 21-yard field goal on their next possession. Georgetown had marched all the way to the Bison’s two-yard line, even getting a fresh set of downs following a pass interference penalty. Aneesh Vyas came up with a tackle for a loss on the first play of that sequence, helping keep the Hoyas out of the end zone.
