Junior forward Kenzie Reed tallied a season-high 15 points and first-year Ashley Yoh posted her first career double-double to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team as it rallied past Penn College, 54-46, to claim its first victory of the season on Tuesday at Bardo Gymnasium.
Reed also collected nine rebounds and went 7 for 10 from the field. Yoh and fellow rookie Meghan Dufner each had 11 points, while Yoh led the Warriors with 14 rebounds and 10 of her points coming from inside the paint. Dufner totaled six rebounds. Sophomore Allison Butler also finished in double figures, posting 10 points and four rebounds.
Reed got the Warriors on the board with an assist from Butler. The Wildcats tied the game three times, all three coming in the first quarter, and they took one lead, but Reed put the Warriors up 13-12 at the end of the first quarter with a layup as time expired.
The Warriors put up 11 points in the second quarter, separating from the Wildcats as Dufner hit a 3-point shot with 1:30 left before another layup from Reed gave the Warriors a seven-point differential, ending the half ahead 24-17.
Rachel Teats led the Wildcats with 11 points and five assists, while Ja'Quela Dyer had a team-high 13 rebounds and seven points.
Mansfield traveled to Division-I Binghamton University for an early-season exhibition game. The Bearcats proved to be too much, running away with a 104-45 victory.
The contest did not count as an official game for the Mountaineers, but served as an early season test for the young Mountaineers as they head into Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
For the Mounties (1-2 overall) freshman Kristen Fulford scored a team-high eight points, while pulling in three rebounds, plucking two steals and going 4 of 5 at the free-throw line. Junior Alivia Paeglow and Kayla Cincilia each scored seven points off the bench, while Cincilia finished 7 of 10 from the charity stripe and hauled in a team-high four rebounds. Seniors Paige Whitfield and Kira Merritt each knocked down a 3-pointer on their way to five points.
• Junior center Alex Timmerman made the most of his first career start, scoring 22 points of 10 for 12 shooting to go with eight rebounds, but Mercer used a big run in each half to outlast the Bucknell men's basketball team, 78-68 at the Cancun Classic.
Xander Rice tallied 20 points and Andrew Funk had 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the shorthanded Bison (1-4). Bucknell was playing without two starters, as center Andre Screen couldn't go due to injury, and wing Josh Adoh dressed but was held out as he recovers from illness. The Timmerman-Rice-Funk triumvirate combined for 58 of the team's 68 points.
Lock Haven defeated Holy Family University, 67-64, on the road in non-conference action. MarkAnthony Fidelis once again led all scorers with 24 points for LHU.
Jesse McPherson and DaQuan Granberry each chipped in 11 points for Lock Haven. McPherson added nine rebounds and a crucial 5 of 5 from the free throw line.
Penn College fell to Wilson, 71-48. The Phoenix took a 32-25 lead into the half as the Wildcats are still searching for their first win of the season (0-4).
Gavin Barrett led Penn College with a 12-point performance and both Will Sulesky and Max Jackowsky added seven points each.
