Three first-half goals helped Delaware Valley defeat Williamsport in the District 2-4 Class AAAA semifinals on Thursday night at Delaware Valley. The loss prevents Williamsport from extending its district championship title streak of five in a row.
Mallory Pardoe scored Williamsport's lone goal in the 34th minute off an assist by Kailee Helmrich. Delaware Valley held a 9-5 shots on goal advantage.
The Millionaires end the season 7-10-1.
South Williamsport came up shy of winning the program's first District 4 title since 2006 as Southern Columbia won, 3-0. It's the third title since 2018 for the Tigers.
"This was a great way to prepare for the state playoffs. Hopefully we will get another chance to play them in the state playoffs," said South coach Marc Lovecchio said.
Southern Columbia led 1-0 at the half as both teams entered halftime with seven shots each. Evelyn Cook scored off an assist by Cassidy Savitski for the early 1-0 lead. Summer Tillett scored four minutes into the second half to put the Tigers ahead, 2-0.
With 25:32 left, Loren Gehret scored by sending a shot to the upper left corner on a free kick to make it a 3-0 game.
"We played well, it's just that that they put away their chances and we didn't. Just a minute in we had a good opportunity but couldn't execute it. They are the defending champions and showed why with their ability to make the most of their opportunities," Lovecchio said.
The loss is the second of the season for the Mounties (17-2).
