Hughesville freshman Ava Snyder scored 15 points and the Spartans played strong defense as they won their second straight game, defeating Milton, 37-34. Ali Anstadt and Hailey Poust each scored eight points and Hughesville won a game which featured four technical fouls. Morgan Reiner scored 13 points for Milton. The Spartans (2-1) have held all four opponents to 41 points or fewer.
Bucktail continued its strong start, shutting out Montgomery in the second quarter and improving to 3-0 with a 34-29 home win. The Bucks held off Montgomery’s second-half comeback and held a team to fewer than 30 points for a third straight game. Raileigh Isaacs scored 10 points and Kayla Probert and Makenzie Wagner each added nine. Taylor McRae produced a game-high 12 points for Montgomery (1-2) and Faith Persing scored 11.
Central Mountain won its second straight, playing stifling defense in a 36-25 win against Bellefonte. The Wildcats have allowed just 52 points in their last two games and Mia Kopysciansky scored a team-high 11 points. Danica Kelly and Kiahna Jones each had eight as Central Mountain improved to 2-1.
Emma Coolidge scored a game-high 17 points and freshman Chloe Brandenburg aded 11 as Wellsboro defeated Cowanesque Valley, 58-35 on the road. Freshman Paige Logsdon also reached double digits, scoring 10 points. Ella Churchill led CV with 10 points.
Emily McKee scored nine points for Warrior Run but the Defenders fell behind early against Bloomsburg and could not catch up in a 47-20 loss. Madeline Evans scored 18 points for Bloomsburg with Bryn Zentner adding 15.
Aislyn Williams scored 10 points and dealt six assists, helping Canton defeat North Penn-Mansfield, 34-25. The Warriors built an 11-0 first-quarter lead and held off a NPM comeback. Molly Ward grabbed 15 rebounds and made three steals while Carolyn Thoren blocked five shots and Emme Tymeson scored nine points, helping Canton improve to 3-1. McKenna Lightener scored 10 points for the Tigers.
Montoursville sophomore Maddy Labatch scored nine points in Montoursville’s 55-27 loss against defending District 4 Class AAAA champion Central Columbia. Alyx Flick (14), Haley Bull (12) and Caitlyn Weatherill (11) scored in double figures for the Blue Jays (3-0).
Williamson’s Taylor Rae Jones scored nine points in the Warriors’ 54-14 loss to defending NTL-I champion Towanda. Paige Manchester scored 25 points for the Black Knights.
Elizabeth Ritchie scored 11 points for North Penn-Liberty in a 33-22 loss against Troy. Sidney Landis added seven. MaKenna Matthews scored 13 points for Troy.
In boys basketball, Jake Hernandez scored 16 points and Lewisburg led after one quarter against defending District 4 Class AAAA champion Danville before losing 56-48. Cam Michaels added 10 points for Lewisburg (1-1) while Carson Persing scored 16 for Danville and drained four 3-pointers.
