WELLSBORO -- Shake off the cabin fever blues and enjoy a night of jazz performed by Bram Wijnands, of Kansas City, Missouri, at 7 p.m. this Saturday at the Penn Wells Hotel, 62 Main St.
Wijnands will play the swing music of Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw, and showcase his talent for multiple instruments.
"His concerts are personal and intimate," a press release said, lauding his "…joyful exuberance coupled with his technical skill, dexterity and knowledge."
Born and raised in the Netherlands, he became interested in stride piano, boogie-woogie and swing at an early age, and was considered a master of stride piano upon graduating from the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
In 1991, Wijnands moved to Kansas City to perform at the City Light Jazz Club. He performed at Carnegie Hall in 1998, which led the mayor to proclaim him "Kansas City's Ambassador of Swing."
He taught jazz piano, arranging and more at the University of Missouri's Kansas City Conservatory of Music alongside Bobby Watson, and also taught jazz piano and bass in Jim Mair's program at Kansas Community College in Kansas City.
Wijnands has performed with many well-known jazz artists and toured the Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, Russia, Cyprus, Hungary, Romania and the United States.
