(EDITOR'S NOTE: Monthly Mocktail is a four-week series running on the third Wednesday of the month leading up to summer.)
If you want a sophisticated, fun and fizzy drink without the burden of a hangover, you need a mocktail!
Mocktails are a great substitute to alcohol in social situations, and are a fun way to get your daily vitamins and nutrients.
For me personally, mocktails are a way to have fun while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Whatever the case, there are tons of reasons to grab a fancy glass and get creative.
Get creative
One of my favorite parts about making a mocktail is getting to pick out a fun glass that I feel fits the drink best.
For unique drink glasses, I head to the nearest second-hand store and pick out whatever catches my eye.
For this mocktail I picked out a tall ripple glass -- in my opinion, the fancier the better.
Fun and fresh
This flavorful mojito is both sweet and tart. The tartness of the pomegranate and lime resemble the taste of a refreshing cocktail, while the blueberry and optional sweetener balances the drink out. Mint adds to the refreshing flavor while also working as a pretty garnish. If you want to add a little more something to the drink, add some pomegranate arils for extra taste and presentation.
Incorporating ingredients to your mocktail that naturally benefit your mind, body and overall health can add to the fun.
With the cold and flu season flaring up recently, I thought it would be a great idea to make a mocktail full of vitamins and antioxidants.
Pomegranate juice and blueberries are both high in antioxidants.
Mint is also known to contain different vitamins and minerals including fiber, which benefits the digestive system; vitamin A, which can help support a healthy immune system; iron, which supports good energy levels; folate (or vitamin B9), which our bodies use to create new cells, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The ingredients of this drink are very simple. Once you have them all, you just have to mix them all in to taste.
I garnish the drink with a healthy amount of fresh mint.
All of these ingredients you can give or take, depending on your personal preference.
More lime will make the drink more tart while more simple syrup will sweeten the drink up.
This is a great drink to share, especially with warm spring days on the horizon.
Have fun and enjoy good health!
Pomegranate Blueberry
Mojito Mocktail
1/2 cup pomegranate blueberry juice
1/2 cup flavored or non flavored soda water/seltzer (I prefer any kind of La Croix)
1/2 squeezed lime
fresh Mint
1 tablespoon pomegranate arils (optional)
Simple syrup (1 tablespoon, or to taste, optional)
Fill a glass with ice. Then, add your pomegranate and blueberry juice; this should equal about half of the glass. Add a splash of sweetener and squeeze in half a lime. Then fill the rest of the cup with a soda water or seltzer of choice.
