50th wedding anniversary for city couple
Ross and Barbara Hemmendinger, of Williamsport, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 8, while enjoying a return visit to Jim Thorpe, where they were married in 1970 by the Hon. Harry Heydt.
Barbara is the daughter of the late Hedda and George Elk. Born in New York City, she graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Bryn Mawr College. She retired in 2015 after a long career with the Williamsport Family Medicine Residency Program at UPMC Susquehanna as a clinical social worker and medical educator.
Ross is the son of the late Arthur and Peggy Hemmendinger. Born and raised in Los Alamos, New Mexico, Ross is a 1964 graduate of Los Alamos High School and a 1968 graduate of Haverford College. He also earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Pennsylvania College of Technology in 2004 and is employed by Community Nursing Service as a registered nurse.
The Hemmendingers have two children, Wendy (Zeak) Johnson, of Bellefonte, and Joshua Hemmendinger of Park Hills, Missouri. There are four grandchildren.
