South Williamsport couple celebrates 50 years

Mr. and Mrs. H. Joseph Grafius of South Williamsport observed their 50th wedding anniversary on August 3, 2021. They were married at the bride's family home on Sheridan Street, Williamsport, by the Rev. Charles Confer.

Sandy, the former Sandra O. Hale, was born in New York, the daughter of the late Samuel O. and Jane E. (Hale) Straka. She is a 1969 graduate of the Williamsport Area High School and earned an associates degree from Pennsylvania College of Technology in 2010. Sandy retired from Dynamats Gymnastics Center in 2016 and has been employed as a part-time writing tutor for Pennsylvania College of Technology since the fall of 2010.

Joe is the son of the late Thomas L. and Joy M. Grafius. He graduated from the Williamsport Area High School in 1966 and enlisted in the Army in 1967, serving in Vietnam 1968-1969. After discharge from the service, Joe attended Williamsport Area Community College, then transferred to Lock Haven State College and graduated with a bachelor's degree in social work in 1977. He worked for Lycoming County Children and Youth for 26 years and is currently employed part-time as a BioTest medical courier.

Joe and Sandy are the parents of Peter, Devon, and Martin Grafius, who made their anniversary more special by hosting family get-togethers to celebrate the event.
