Couple celebrates diamond anniversary
Harold and Joyce Hershberger will celebrate 60 years of life together on June 30, 2022. United in marriage by the Reverend Frederick Hasskarl, they were married at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Williamsport on June 30, 1962.
Joyce Ann (Simpson) Hershberger is the daughter of the late Fred and Elsie (Tepel) Simpson. A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, she taught first grade in Arlington, Virginia and in the former Lose School until the birth of her daughters. She has spent a lifetime actively volunteering in her church and community, never refusing an opportunity to show leadership in often challenging circumstances. She served on the Williamsport Area School District Board of Directors for 14 years, and was recently honored by the Lycoming County SPCA for 35 years of service as president of that organization.
Harold is the son of the late Harold and Sarah Amilla (Robb) Hershberger, Sr. A graduate of Bucknell University and the Rutgers School of Banking, he retired in 1990 as Vice President and Senior Trust Officer of Northern Central Bank. Harold was also active in the Williamsport community, notably as the secretary of the Board of Directors of the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania (then known as the Williamsport-Lycoming Foundation) for over 30 years, and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the James V. Brown Library (his great-grandfather, Seth T. Foresman, was a founding member of the Library Board during his service as Mayor of Williamsport) for over 40 years.
Harold and Joyce are the parents of two daughters: Pamela (Mike) Jensen and Susan (Jim) Newcomer Sr., both of Williamsport. They have three grandchildren: Emily Newcomer, James Newcomer Jr., and Sean Jensen; and two step-grandchildren: Ryan Jensen and Katlin Jensen.
In honor of their anniversary, Harold and Joyce renewed their wedding vows surrounded by their family on June 19, 2022 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Brian Vasey officiating.
