Montoursville duo sees 50 years

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Specht are celebrating 50 years of marriage. They were married on June 24, 1972, at Christ Lutheran Church in Monroe, Mich. They were married during Hurricane Agnes, and unfortunately the groom’s family from Pennsylvania could not make it to Michigan for the wedding due to the massive flooding. Instead of a honeymoon, the bride and groom went to Pennsylvania to help the groom’s family with cleanup.

Mrs. Specht, the former Cathy Koch, was from Monroe, Mich., and Mr. Specht was from Northumberland, Pa. They have resided in Montoursville the past 48 years. Mr. Specht retired from Pennsylvania College of Technology after 39 years. Mrs. Specht helped create the Williamsport Women’s Tennis League and was involved with the league for 46 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Specht have two children: daughters Carin (Dave) Carl of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Trisha (Kyle) Hoefel of St. Louis, Mo. They have five grandchildren.

They enjoy gardening, walking, going to get coffee and spending time with their family.
