Unityville couple celebrates 70 years of marriage

Janet Louise Montague married Clarence Arthur Lore on Jan. 9, 1953. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lore will observe their 70th wedding anniversary Jan. 9, 2023. They were married in Sweet Valley by Rev. Ira J. Button. Janet was born in Strawbridge to the late Jason & Glenna (Barto) Montague, of Muncy Valley. Clarence "Brig" was born in Unityville to the late Larue and Edna (Hunsinger) Lore, of Unityville. Janet and Clarence both attended Hughesville High School.

Janet began working at Weldon's, then decided to work from home, milking cows and driving school bus, while raising their children. Now she enjoys, cooking, baking, reading and shopping.

Clarence "Brig" drove tractor trailer truck as well as milked cows, drove school bus and farmed for himself and others. Now he enjoys reading and walking on their country roads.

A great past time of theirs was watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren and still do. They enjoyed square dancing, playing cards and board games with their friends. They meet with family and friends for breakfast, lunches and dinners as well as just spending time with all. They are active member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Unityville, where they have been for their lifetime.

They have four children, Robert "Bob" Lore (Steph), Judy Bartlett (Mark), Jeanne Crawford (Troy), Jeanette Stroup (Gregory); eight grandchildren: Sherri, Rudy and Robby Lore, Teresa and Marcus Bartlett, Kelly McCarty, Jason and Jaret Stroup; and seven great-grandchildren, Felicia, Haley, Jayden, Isaiah, Elle, Makela and Kaylyn.
