Mr. Sherwood, a native of Williamsport, is the son of the late William L. and Flora Hunsinger Sherwood. He graduated from Williamsport High School in 1954 and received a bachelor's of science degree from Lycoming College in 1958. He earned a master's degree in business administration from Michigan State University in 1966. He is also a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia.
Mr. Sherwood served on active duty in the U.S. Navy for 30 years, retiring as a Captain in the Naval Supply Corps in 1988. During his time in the Navy, he served as Commanding Officer, Navy Food Service Systems Office, with responsibility for the Navy's Food Service Program and later as the Inspector General for the Navy's Supply System. Captain Sherwood's last duty station was as Officer in Charge at Cheatham Annex Naval Supply Center, Williamsburg, Virginia. Mr. Sherwood then served as business manager at Lycoming College for 10 years, retiring in 2000.
They are the parents of a son, Stephen Scott, and his wife, Kathy, and step son, Danny, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and daughter, Laurie Horne, of Fredericksburg, Virginia. They are the grandparents of Rebecca (Chris) Riebling and Kristen Horne, both of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and great-grandparents of Jaxon, Ranger, Ocean, Eleanor and Toby. Bill and Ann enjoyed 30 years in the Navy and the many duty stations, including two years on Guam, and the friends they made at each assignment. Since retirement, they traveled to Ireland and RV'd all over the 48 continental states, Alaska, the maritime provinces and western Canada.
The couple is currently planning a trip locally to a secluded cabin in the woods to reminisce and quietly enjoy their wonderful memories of 65 years together.
