Couple to celebrate 70 years

The Rev. and Mrs. Charles P. Johnson, on June 12, celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. Charles was born in Wyandotte, Michigan, in 1931. Donna was born in South Bend, Indiana, on April 24, 1934. Both attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan, where they met.

During their lives together, they served Reformed Churches in Iowa, Kentucky and New Jersey. They concluded their ministry in the Middle East, serving The Sultanate of Oman and Bahrain. Donna worked as a special education teacher while they were living in New Jersey.

Retiring in 1995, the Johnsons moved to Williamsport, where Charles (also called Chuck) continued his ministry part-time in various churches in the area: Trinity United Methodist, in Jersey Shore; The First United Methodist, in Williamsport; and Oval United Methodist, as well as several Presbyterian churches.

The couple is blessed with four children, Steven P. (MaryAnn); Eric (Barbara), of Redford, Virginia; Denelda Giovinazzo, of Strasburg, Virginia; and Philip (Mary), of Kalamazoo, Michigan. They also have 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, plus one foster child.
