Marty and Gail Maurer, of Williamsport, recently celebrated 50 years of marriage with family and friends. The two got married on June 30, 1973 at First United Methodist Church in Somerville, N.J. The ceremony was officiated by Rev. John Infanger and Rev. Steve Condon. Gail is currently a member of Pine Street UMC in Williamsport.
Gail Lynn (Pearce) Maurer was born in Somerville, N.J. to her late parents, Alexander and Hazel Pearce. Gail graduated from Lycoming College in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in English with elementary education. She continued her education through post-graduate work. Gail was an elementary school teacher in the Williamsport Area School District, where she retired in 2006.
Marty Maurer was born in Williamsport to late parents, Martin and Ann Maurer. He graduated from Williamsport Area High School and from Lycoming College in 1965, where he received a bachelor's degree in biology. He also continued his education through post-graduate work. Marty retired from being a secondary teacher in the South Williamsport School District.
Marty and Gail are the proud parents of three daughters, Jodie (Matt) Welty, of Williamsport, Sherrie (Nicholas) Saramandich, of Hot Springs, Ark., and Laurie (Michael) Virgilio, of Gallatin, Tenn. They are also proud grandparents of five grandchildren, Breanna, Kyle, Emma, Milania and Nicholas.
