William and Carol Derr of Williamsport celebrated their 50th anniversary on Sept. 8. They were married in 1973 by the Rev. Leon Love at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Williamsport.
The former Carol Hahn is the daughter of the late George and Nancy Hahn. She graduated from Williamsport Area High School in 1972.
William Derr is the son of the late Victor and Grace Derr. He graduated from Williamsport Area High School in 1966. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1971 and in the Army from 1974 to 1996. He was employed by the state Public Utility Commission's Gas Safety Division Bureau of Enforcement, retiring in 2007.
They have two sons, Kevin Derr of Bellefonte and Craig Derr of Sunbury and two daughters, Jennifer Hartley of South Williamsport and Erin Crist of Williamsport and 11 grandchildren.
The couple is planning a trip in the fall to further celebrate, having already celebrated with a surprise dinner hosted by their children at the Sons of Italy.
