Larry and Debbie Stout of Montgomery were married on August 24, 1974 at United Methodist Church in Montgomery. They have four children and ten grandchildren.
Through their years together they have had quite a life journey. Debbie had gone to Wesley College in Dover, Delaware, where she received an associates degree in nursing and received her registered nursing license one month before her marriage. Her nursing career continued her entire life until finally retiring in 2020.
Larry had quite a diverse career path. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1976 and served as a chaplain assistant at Chanute AFB, Illinois and then in 1980 became a USAF recruiter in Norristown as an enlisted and officer recruiter. After separating from the military in 1984, Larry became a co-vocational pastor and as admission director at the Katharine Gibbs School in Valley Forge.
In 1991, Larry and Debbie and their three children; Elizabeth, age 15, David, age 13, and Aaron, age 10, moved to Riga, Latvia, USSR, to serve as medical missionaries for children with disabilities. Debbie was instrumental in establishing Mes Esam Lidzas (We Are Beside You) Children's Rehabilitation Center for children with cerebral palsy, the first in the former USSR. She also served as the resident nurse for the US Embassy in Riga, Latvia through the 1990s and early 2000s. Larry was active on the education side, introducing Western teaching methodologies with a Christian focus that was taught in all the teacher colleges and became the standard for the educational system in the country.
During the 17 years that the Stouts were living in Latvia, their three children returned to the U.S.; Elizabeth went to nursing school, became an nurse, and married her high school sweetheart Rob Mattox. David and Aaron joined the Air Force and served in the Middle East and later went to college for their bachelors' degrees and also married. The Stouts filled their empty nest by adopting a nine-year old Russian orphan named Olya. She would grow up and join the U.S. Coast Guard for over 10 years. Larry continued his studies while living abroad, receiving an MBA from EHSAL School of Management in Brussels, Belgium and a Ph.D. in educational science from Liepaja University in Liepaja, Latvia.
Larry and Debbie returned to live in Montgomery in 2006 to care for Debbie's parents. Beyond this, Debbie served as a home care nurse for Geisinger until 2020. After retiring, Debbie has volunteered in a variety of areas such as activities at the Clinton Township Fire Company, prisoner visitation at USP Allenwood and assisting her invalid sister. Larry shifted toward virtual training and put most of his time toward volunteer work in community organizations and also served for 10 years as a Clinton Township supervisor. Larry was also instrumental in establishing Citychurch in Williamsport and continues serving there as an elder.
Since returning to the United States, the Stouts have enjoyed attending a Little League World Series game on their anniversary.
