70-year milestone for couple
Donald and Kyriakoula “Koula” C. Holmquist, of Williamsport, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They were married on Nov. 28, 1954, by Rev. William Kehayes at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Boston.
The former Kyriakoula Constance Papapostolos, formerly of Clinton, Massachusetts, is the daughter of Peter John and Anastasia Mastronicolaou Papapostolos. She attended the Practical Arts High School in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Mrs. Holmquist was employed as an insurance agent at Foland Insurance Agency in 1984 and was a self-employed seamstress in Friendswood, Texas, in 1993.
Mr. Holmquist, formerly of Los Angeles, is the son of John Leland Holmquist and Virginia Wright Brown. He attended San Luis Obispo High School in 1951, Electricians School Navy for submarines in 1954 and the University of California at Berkeley in 1960. He also was employed with IBM in 1990 working with finance.
Because Mr. Holmquist worked for IBM throughout many states in the U.S., after retiring he traveled for 12 years around the world and settled in Montoursville in 2001 to be close with family.
Mr. Holmquist served in the Korean war. He served for four years active and four years inactive. He worked on the Navy’s Bon Homme Richard aircraft carrier and the submariner on the Clamagore 343.
They are the parents of a daughter, Aegina H. Leidhecker, of Williamsport; a son, Steffan Jon Holmquist, of Atlanta, Georgia; and a daughter, Leanna H. Holmquist, of Cedar Park, Texas. They also have five grandchildren.
