LOCK HAVEN -- The Clinton County Arts Council is gearing up and offering four art classes to area youngsters in the coming weeks.
The non-profit, whose goal is to foster the arts within the community, will host two photography classes, a mix media class and video class for area kids in grades 5 to 8.
"For us, it's part of our mission. We're all about growing interest in the arts," CCAC Board Member Rich Wykoff said.
Wykoff noted that each class has a limited number of seats, with classes costing $30 each. The fee may be paid on day one of the art camp.
The classes will take place at The Station Gallery, 2 E. Bald Eagle St., Lock Haven.
Shutterflies 1.0
This summer sees the return of Shutterflies, a photography class led by area photographer and CCAC member Bruce Wallace. Wallace has previously taught this class in the past. "He does a really great job," Wykoff said. The class will take place July 7 through 10 with only 7 spots available. Wallace will lead the students through group sessions that focus on basic use of a camera, techniques involved in creating a photograph and in processing a photograph on a computer. Each day will consist of a brief workshop followed by a "photo walk" to capture images that reflect what was taught in the workshop. Wykoff said young photographers may bring their own camera, or use one provided by the CCAC.
Shutterflies 2.0
New this year is a secondary Shutterflies course to expand on Shutterflies instructions. Wykoff said the program, led by Wallace, will focus on the photo editing aspect of photography. The class, which only has 7 spots available, will run from July 17 to July 21. According to Wykoff, Wallace will teach the kids how to use Photopea -- a software similar to Photoshop which is available everywhere.
Camp Create
Local art teacher Amy Askey will lead 12 students through a mix-of-art experience. The class will be open to children grades 3 through 8 and feature mixed media landscape, chalk pastel stained glass windows, neurographic art-mindful doodles and felt creatures. The class will run from July 24 through July 28.
Let's Make a Movie!
Eight local kids will have the chance to learn about videography and movie editing in Let's Make a Movie! With CCAC Board President Steve Getz and Wykoff. The program is new this year, according to Wykoff. "It was something Steve and I spoke about doing," he said. "So we're going to give it a try." Wykoff said the class, which will be split into partners of two, will learn the basic skills necessary to create an iMovie utilizing cell phones or cameras to take pictures and video clips to complete a finished project.
Those with children who may be interested in taking part in the program may request an application by sending an email to entrystationccac@gmail.com with the subject line Summer Art
