Garden Fest celebrates hobby, offers tips to enthusiasts

The Penn State Master Gardeners of Lycoming County are set to welcome plant enthusiasts to their annual Garden Fest from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The event at the Lysock View Complex will include vendors, speakers and educational displays.
Experts will be on hand to answer gardening and plant related questions, according to Jennifer Dudek, master gardener.
Attendees can choose from the following workshops:
9 a.m. "Prune or not to prune, demystifying when to trim/prune in the garden," Carl Bower, assistant professor of Horticulture, Pennsylvania College of Technology.
10 a.m. "Propagating and growing Dahlias," Chris and Craig Scruggs, owners of McCarty House Gardens.
11 a.m. "Thinking of starting a backyard greenhouse? Great tip to keep you from being overwhelmed," Justin Shelinski, faculty Horticulture, Pennsylvania College of Technology.
Noon, "Organics management with Black Soldier fly larvae and composting to feed our future selves," Aubrey Fornwalt, owner Full Circle Bioconversion LLC.
The event will include children's educational displays and activities, a plant and garden sale, a silent auction of baskets and door prizes.
Tours will be offered of perennial, native, annual vegetable, pollinator, herb, rose and the sensory gardens.
The event will be held rain or shine.
