This year's Our Lady of Lourdes Annual Parish Festival, set for Sept. 15 and 16, offers visitors a tasty tropical twist to its meal offerings along with its usual fun-filled schedule of food, music, games and community goodwill.
According to a news release, the yearly event brings together the local community for two nights of fellowship and good times, from 5 to 9 p.m. each evening. Held outside in the parish parking lot at 100 Walnut St., Montoursville, "visitors young and old will once again enjoy festival activities such as train rides, games, children's activities, the ever-popular basket raffle, a pumpkin stand, a cake wheel, a wine wheel and more," the news release said.
But this year's meal offerings feature a new twist -- Friday, dust off that flowered shirt and a grass skirt for Aloha Night, as the festival chefs serve a Hawaiian-influenced roasted pork dinner, bringing island-flavored foods to Montoursville that include Hawaiian-style pork, tropical coleslaw, baked beans, a roll and butter and dessert. On Saturday, the menu changes to Old-World European style as diners can enjoy an authentic Polish menu featuring mouth-watering homemade pierogies, stuffed cabbage, haluski and dessert.
Should those offerings not tempt the tastebuds, festival-goers can choose from traditional fair fare such as hamburgers, hot dogs, fresh-cut French fries, hot sausage sandwiches, funnel cakes, walking tacos, fresh-squeezed lemonade, ice cream and homemade pie.
The entertainment on tap includes Leo KG and the Family Traditions band on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. On Saturday, soloist Lenny Weber and his guitar will entertain with his interpretation of classic '70s, '80s, and '90s music from 6 to 9 p.m.
