Future Farmers in Montoursville, Montgomery celebrate ‘Ag Day’

The Montoursville and Montgomery FFA chapters held their 31st annual Ag day in mid-October at Ben Hepburn's farm. FFA members got to teach fourth graders and Loyalsock's and Montgomery's first graders about agriculture and various topics. The chapters thanked EQT for sponsoring Ag day and a "very generous donation," a news release said.
FFA officers stirred apple butter all night long and are now selling it as a fundraiser. Officers also released pheasants for each grade.
"As FFA members, we strive to teach younger generations about agriculture," the news release said. "On our clothing this year we have a quote that reads, 'We believe in the future of agriculture.' It is important that we teach future generations about agriculture and why it is so important. We hope that these younger students will also join FFA when they get to high school. Ag day is a way for us to get these kids on a farm and around animals. We hope to inspire these students to want to learn more about agriculture. Ag day is also a learning experience for our FFA members. We all have to prepare our stations and what we want to say to each grade. We hope to inspire more FFA chapters to have their own 'Ag day.' "
