Barbara Henry Rodgers will host a book release and signing for the book she recently wrote and illustrated titled “Growing Up on Fox Street; Memories from the 1960s.”

The event will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Dec. 2, at the Backhouse Cafe Coffee and Tea, 901 W. Fourth St. Williamsport.

According to a news release, the owner of the cafe, June DeRemer Wright is a childhood friend of Rodgers’ — and is one of several friends she wrote about in her book.

Having been raised in Old Lycoming Township, “Growing Up on Fox Street” is full of stories about Rodgers’ elementary school years, family life with brothers and cousins and world happenings.

“She wanted today’s generation, especially her 10-year-old granddaughter, to know how different the times were back then,” the news release said.

“Even though the times are different today, for the Fox Street kids — and all kids everywhere — the idea of growing up seemed so far away,” Rodgers said, according to a news release. “It is their childhood memories that now seem far away.”

Rodgers pursues her passion of writing, designing, and crafting projects to encourage others in their Christian faith and prayer. In the past, She has led women’s groups and retreats, prayer groups, Bible studies, and children’s ministries. Having written and illustrated children’s activity books, she is currently working on other writing projects since retiring as a graphic artist.

Starting at $2.99/week.
