Three events at the James V. Brown Library will help small business owners and aspiring public speakers.
The library, 19 E. Fourth St., has announced two free workshops for small business owners.
From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, April Line will offer a discussion-based workshop to help you prioritize your passion and start thinking of creative solutions to get back to doing the things you actually love to do.
There's no one-size-fits-all with small business, and every small business owner is different. You didn't start your business because you love writing schedules, managing staff, and doing administrative tasks, but you have the passion, drive, and skills to get all of it done, and there's no time to figure out a different way. This situation feels impossible, makes you completely stuck, and messes with your morale. You probably find yourself wondering why you're even doing it sometimes.
Line and other small business owners will talk through frustrations and discover how to begin to think about getting back to doing all the things that fuel you about your small business and fewer of the things that don't.
From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Feb. 12, Line will offer a second program, "Small Business Personnel: Having Hard Conversations."
During this presentation, Line will share tips and tricks for difficult conversations with staff. Participants will talk through essential interpersonal skills, how to stay calm if your people get activated, and how to make it less scary to have these conversations. Then, there will be some role-playing because practice helps with this discomfort. Learn to stop hating giving your team constructive feedback.
Line has been working in a business consulting capacity for about the last 7 years. When she left her most recent role as an executive and in-house consultant in a small business, she found that people saw the good she'd done there and wanted and sought her help. She decided to lean into consulting and is currently launching Get in Line Business Solutions, whose mission is to meet owners and entrepreneurs where they are, with individualized, real-world solutions. Both programs are in the Lowry Room on the third floor of the Welch Children's Wing.
These programs support the PA Forward Initiative by providing basic, financial and information literacy opportunities for learning
The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., will also host a free public speaking and storytelling program facilitated by the Greater Williamsport Toastmasters Club.
The program will be presented from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 27, in the Lowry Room on the third floor of the Welch Children's Wing.
Join Donna J. Miller and Phil Beuhrer for a fast-paced public speaking and storytelling workshop.
Each day, we have conversations with family, friends, and co-workers. These conversations are simply stories. Whenever we share a story, we're actually giving a mini-speech. This workshop will give you tips on improving your public speaking skills. Paper and pencil will be provided to take notes. Register for the program here: https://jvbrown.libcal.com/event/11371525.
