FFA members visit Eagle Grange

Montgomery FFA and Eagle Grange #1 celebrated an annual FFA "Blue Jacket" Night recently, hosted in the Grange Hall at 32 East Blind Road, Montgomery.

Fourteen FFA students and their adult adviser, Chris Ulrich, participated in the Blue Jacket event, expressing thanks to the Grange for again sponsoring several jackets awarded at the state Farm Show to new members from the Montgomery Chapter. Many similarities with Grange meeting procedures were noted as the officers of the chapter presented a demonstration on conducting their formal FFA meetings.

Guest speakers for the evening included Ms. Liz Vollman, representing state Sen. Gene Yaw, R-Loyalsock Township, and Carrie Nace, Legislative liaison for the PA State Grange. She said priorities for Senator Yaw's office include responsible solar energy, broadband infrastructure improvements, declining population projections for rural areas and flood damages funding.

"Extending reliable broadband service to rural Pennsylvania has been the goal of the Grange for the past 20 years," a news release said. "The Grange is supportive of proposed legislation that would restrict the use of prime farmland for solar farms and to require bonding of solar companies for decommissioning costs."

At this event plans were announced plans for a March 15 Baked Potato Night Dinner sponsored jointly by the Grange and FFA to benefit two local food pantries - SonLight House in Muncy and Footprints of Montgomery. This new service project follows the successful Jingle Bell Jamboree for children and families and a community-wide food collection conducted by the two groups last December. The next Grange event will be a Leap Year Potluck Dinner on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Grange Hall. KJ Reimensnyder-Wagner of Lewisburg, musician and inspirational speaker, will present the program on "Adapting to Today's Reality." Members and friends of the Grange are invited to attend; meat, beverage and place settings will be provided and attendees are asked to bring a casserole, salad or dessert to share.
