County fair to improve equine area

The Lycoming County Fair Association recently announced that they have received a grant through the First Community Foundation Partnership in the amount of $30,000 from the Lycoming Economic Development Foundation Fund in memory of Joseph L. Rider for use as part of their Equine Area Revitalization Project.
According to a news release from the fair association, revitalization of the Lycoming County Fairgrounds Equine area will promote increased use of this underutilized part of the fairgrounds. This funding will provide increased safety and opportunities for Lycoming County and surrounding area youth for equine related activities. Arena improvements will make the footing safer for the horses and updated equipment and facilities will reduce the amount of work required to maintain the facility throughout the year.
"The Lycoming County Fairgrounds has the base to build upon to increase equine activities in this area," the news release said. "The equine area is being underutilized and these improvements can help fix that issue by offering an economical alternative for horse-related activities. With overnight RV hook-ups and over 100 stalls people traveling with their horses would also have a safe place to stay if traveling long distances or attending multiple events in this region instead of traveling home."
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on July 16, beginning at 6:30 p.m. to recognize the First Community Foundation Partnership and others that assisted with this project at the main equine arena. The ceremony will be followed by a unique demonstration from the East Coast Outlaws of Cowboy Mounted Shooting.
