The Williamsport Music Club will present "Music Inspires Women," 7 p.m., March 26 at Faxon-Kenmar United Methodist Church at the corner of Clayton Avenue and Sheridan Street.
Participants have chosen one of their favorite women composers and will present a selection of that composer. Jamie Chambers will present two flute numbers titled Piece Pour Flute et Piano (Sicilienne) and Chanson De La Pastoure. The composer was Louise-Marie Simon, who was a prolific French composer. Her pen name was Claude Arrieu. Katharine Cimini and Letha Kieser will present a duet Whispering Hope. The composer was Alice Hawthorne and Kristin Ivers will accompany them.
Serin Heller, a violinist, will present Sicilienne. The composer was Maria Theresia von Paradis. She will also play Survivor by Pam Wedgewood. She will be accompanied by Beverly Schmidt.
Kay Huffman will sing The Preamble to the Constitution of the United States of America. The material is based on America the Beautiful. This was composed by Louise Holmes Stryker, who is past member of the music club. Kristin Ivers will be the accompanist. Margaret Piper and Mary Beth Kibbe will present another duet titled Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell. Ivers also will be their accompanist.
Letha Kieser will sing Centering by composer Alice Parker. The accompanist will be Carol Waltz. Susan Phillips will sing Come, Let Us Sing by composer Mary Kay Beall. She will be accompanied by David Koskey. Carol Waltz will present an organ selection titled Contrasts. The composer is Emma Lou Diemer. This is one of Carol's favorite composers. According to Carol, she is 96 and still going strong.
Shirley Knade will sing May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You by composer Meredith Willson. Her accompanist will be Bonnie Seltzer. David Koskey will perform a piano solo titled My Savior First of All by composer Mary McDonald. Bonnie Seltzer will read a poem titled Journey by Mary Brophy, who is a music club member, while Dr. Oscar Knade will read another poem, The Elopement, by Carrie Jacobs-Bond.
