The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., will host two history programs in April.
The first is a hybrid program called "Presentations with Pizzazz" from 6-6:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 9. Attendees can either visit the library during that time to watch the virtual program or log on from the comfort of their own home.
"Presentations with Pizzazz" will be presented by Susan Cannavino, who will discuss the historical captain of industry, J.D. Rockefeller.

Cannavino, a graduate of John Carroll University, is a retired high school English teacher. Upon retirement she started her company, "Presentations with Pizzazz" for all lifelong learners. Her goal is to educate, excite and enrich the lives of others. She is an instructor for The Case Western Reserve University's Siegal Lifelong Learning Program, as well presenting to various organizations whose members love to learn.
The second program will focus on Mark Twain and will be presented by historian John Maietta from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, in the Lowry Room.
Hailed as America's greatest humorist, Mark Twain tempered wit with wisdom, mixing social critique into his tales of travel and adventure. This program explores the trajectory of Twain's life - from his boyhood along the Mississippi, to his gilded heyday among the Yankee elite, to the later years of business failure and family tragedy. Prospector, printer, and riverboat pilot, Twain was above all a keen observer of human nature, and his insights remain funny and relevant today.
A native of Williamsport, Maietta retired from a lifelong public relations career in 2010. For many years he operated a successful freelance business in the Harrisburg area, while simultaneously serving as a public affairs officer with the Pennsylvania National Guard.
Starting in 2002, he completed numerous active-duty assignments with the U.S. Army, including long-term deployments to Bosnia, Kosovo, Germany, and Iraq. In 2014 he received a master's degree in applied history from Shippensburg University. He is currently on the adjunct faculty at York College of Pennsylvania, where he teaches a course on the foundations of Western civilization. He is also a popular presenter of public lectures on a wide variety of cultural and historical topics.
