The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., will host a series of River Walk Adventure programs along various parts of the Susquehanna River Walk in support of the Summer Learning Theme "Adventure Begins at Your Library."
Adventure begins at the library and continues in the community as the Library System's outreach vehicle, Book's Bus, joins Jerry Walls to check out books and stroll along the River Walk.
Each 9:30-10:30 a.m. session will explore a different area of the River Walk:
• June 3: South Williamsport Park, 545 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport.
•June 17: River Walk Parking Lot, 1324 Commerce Park Drive, Williamsport.
• July 1: Carl L. Stotz Park, 1951 Upper Green Ave., Williamsport.
• July 15: Heshbon Park, 2729-2799 Heshbon Road, Williamsport.
• July 29: Bair Drive, 195 W. Creek Road, Cogan Station.
This program is for all ages. Please wear comfortable clothes and safe shoes and bring a water bottle.
Jerry Walls, FAICP, will join us and give us an update from Lycoming County Planning Commission staff on the probable construction schedule of the River Walk Extension.
Walls is a professional planner who served as the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer for the Lycoming County Planning Commission for 37 years and as Department Head for the Planning and Community Development, Zoning, and GIS for over ten years. Due to his planning leadership, Lycoming County has gained statewide and national recognition for excellence in planning and progressive environmental initiatives. Walls wrote visionary policies in the early 1970s for the wise use, protection, and better utilization of the Susquehanna River. His persistent work toward that vision led like-minded leaders to form the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership in 2001.
In 2012, Walls was inducted into the American Institute of Certified Planners' College of Fellows. Fellows of the AICP are honored in recognition of their achievements as an individual, elevating the Fellow before the public, and the profession, as a model planner who has made significant contributions to planning, and to society. Fellowship is granted to those planners who have been members of the AICP and who have achieved excellence in professional practice, teaching and mentoring, research, public and community service and leadership.
