The Tiadaghton Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution recently held its annual awards banquet at Le Jeune Chef on the campus of Pennsylvania College of Technology.
After posting colors to "God Bless America," Chaplain Rev. Dave Keller draped a black streamer on the flag in memorial to members who had passed in the previous year.
According to a news release, Bruce Dart presented a narrative and photo account of the restoration of the World War I Memorial Wall in Mansfield that lists over 200 veterans of that conflict.
State President Eric Troutman assisted in the presentation of awards. The first recognition was the SAR War Service Medal presented to Dart for his service in Vietnam.
Citations were announced as Chapter President Greg Forsburg, assisted by the state president, honored three DAR ladies. Troutman presented the Lydia Darragh Medal to Crystal Gansell-Whitcomb. According to the news release, the medal, is named for Lydia Darragh, a Revolutionary War spy.
"Crystal has provided steady help and assistance to the leadership of the Tiadaghton Chapter, SAR," the news release said. "She could always be counted on to help in ways too numerous to mention."
The chapter then presented the SAR Medal of Appreciation to Valerie Bieber and Margaret Knaus. This medal may be presented to a member of the DAR in recognition of, and in appreciation for, outstanding services rendered to the SAR.
Bieber "was praised for her constant aid to the chapter," the news release said. "She was especially recognized for her aid in genealogical research.
The chapter recognized Knaus "for her exemplary contributions to the Tiadaghton Chapter," the news release said. "Always ready and willing to assist in any way, her efforts are key to the sustained success of the Tiadaghton Chapter."
John Bower and Chris Niemczyk each received the SAR Meritorious Service Medal.
"Bower has been a key leader having served as Chapter President and then volunteering to take on treasurer duties," the news release said. "Niemczyk has been invaluable to the Tiadaghton Chapter throughout his tenure as Chapter Secretary. He ably accomplished every task assigned."
Jeff Sholtis, Chapter officer, board member, and host to the annual all-day leadership seminar, was recognized for his contributions with the Roger Sherman Medal.
