2 min read
RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Sounds of laughter and children playing filled the air around Memorial Park for Joel G. Garrison Children’s day on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022 in Williamsport. The annual event, organized by Williamsport’s Recreation Department, is made possible by the Joel G. Garrison Fund managed by First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania. The event offered free games, refreshments, swimming and school backpacks for children in the community. Joel Garrison was a veteran of the Spanish-American war who wanted to ensure a day of fun for all children. He chose August 13 to correspond with the end of the war. The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., will host a free pool party as part of its Summer Learning adventure-themed activities.

The party will take place at Splash Cove, 1744 W. Fourth St., from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, June 29.

Your library card gains you admission! Each participant MUST show their library card at the pool entrance. So, if you can't find yours or don't have one yet, please obtain one at a library Help Desk before the event. This is a program for all ages.

Need a ride to this event? River Valley Transportation is providing free bus rides from any RVT bus route. Just show your library card and let the driver know you need to get to Memorial Pool/Splash Cove.

Remember to bring your Summer Learning Adventure Passport to get a sticker entry. All pool rules must be followed, and adults must accompany children.
