Legion volunteers collect for poppies

Members of the William Marshall Crawford American Legion Family of Lock Haven, participated in collecting donations for veterans and their families, during Poppy Days during the month of May, at Walmart in Mill Hall.

This local Poppy program was sponsored by our American Legion Auxiliary(ALA) Unit #131 of Lock Haven, a news release said.

"Poppy Days broadens a tradition that dates back to the American Legion Auxiliary's first National Convention in the early 1920s, when the red poppy was adopted as the American Legion Family's memorial flower," the news release said. "Today, it remains an iconic symbol of honor for the sacrifice of our veterans. ALA members distribute millions of poppies annually across the country in exchange for donations, that go directly to assist veterans in their communities. Many Americans often wear a poppy to honor our military service members. ALA Unit #131 members thank all who helped and support this awesome program for our Veterans and their families!"
