Boy Scout begins brick sale for veterans monument in Mill Hall
LOCK HAVEN — In February of this year, local Eagle Scout James Turner attended a Mill Hall Borough Council meeting to request approval for his four-phase Eagle Scout project.
He was back at this month’s meeting to let council know he’s beginning the first phase.
Originally the hope was that the project would be completed by the end of this summer, but because it took time to get approval from the scout council, the projected end date was delayed.
“When my parents owned a rental close to the memorial we noticed that the memorial could use an upgrade. I would help my Dad mow around the memorial. It was then that I decided what to do for my Eagle Project,” said Turner in a previous meeting.
The project includes building a park bench, cutting out and welding steel soldier silhouettes and creating a brick pathway.
These 4-inch by 8-inch commemorative bricks are now for sale for $50 a brick and will be engraved by Clinton County Memorials.
The bricks are meant to be a way to recognize a veteran, a family member or loved one, someone close to you, a first responder, an organization or business.
Any unused funds will be transferred to Mill Hall Borough for the maintenance of the memorial.
Turner’s father, Dave Turner, and his grandfather, Art Turner, were both in attendance to support him.
“James and I started yesterday on the sales and presentation to business (owners) in Mill Hall. It was amazing what we did in one day. It takes a little time to sit down with people. We’ll get there,” said Art.
