Since 2009, the YWCA Northcentral PA has honored inspiring women and young ladies who uplift communities through their hard work and dedication. This year, the 16th Annual Women of Excellence Awards Ceremony will be from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Community Arts Center. The Women of Excellence Awards recognize the outstanding achievements of women and young ladies who have excelled in their fields, demonstrated academic excellence, and made significant contributions to their communities.
"This year, we are thrilled to announce our nominees, who exemplify courage, compassion, and proven success in various categories, including Advocacy, Art & Culture, Education, Health & Wellness, Rising Star, Sports, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)…Each nominee has made a significant impact in their communities and is deserving of recognition," according to a news release from the YWCA.
Winners will be announced during the ceremony, where presenters will reveal the recipients from each category, who will then take the stage to accept their awards.
Keynote speaker for the event is Shannon Massey, senior vice-president and general manager of Lycoming Engines.
Massey, who was the 2023 Women of Excellence award recipient in the STEM category,
brings extensive experience in the aviation industry and a strong commitment to talent development and community engagement, the release stated.
"As the 2023 Women of Excellence award recipient in the STEM category, she is excited to share her inspiring journey in a male-dominated field. Shannon has dedicated herself to nurturing local educators and ensuring a skilled workforce, while also serving on the board of the local Chamber of Commerce and Team PA to promote collaboration in Pennsylvania," the YWCA said.
Local musician Rebecca Elkins will provide entertainment during the event.
