Music Club to feature sacred songs

The Williamsport Sacred Music Program will be held at 7 p.m., Jan. 28 at the Pine Street United Methodist Church, 441 Pine St.

“The Williamsport Sacred Music Program that is held annually in January is well-received by both the public and the membership,” a news release said. “Everyone is welcome and invited to attend this free program.”

Katharine Cimini is the chair of the program, which will feature many different genres of sacred music. After the opening remarks by President Ryan Workman, the audience will participate in the reading of “The Federation Collect,” a prayer written for the National Federation of Music Clubs by Mae Belle Cole in 1929, which “imparts our great appreciation and gratitude for the gift of music,” the news release said.

Bonnie Seltzer will then present the poem of the month and the song of the month, “It Is Well With My Soul,” accompanied by Leatha Kieser.

Performers will include Laurel Wolgemuth playing “A Prayer of Need,” written by Penny Rodriguez, on piano. Scott Schell, singing an original song, “Finish What He Began” and playing guitar. Jayden Brown will play on guitar and sing “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)” by Chris Tomlin. Wayne Harris, Tenor, will sing “Nearer, Still Near” accompanied by Kristin Ivers on piano. Ryan Workman, Tenor, will sing “A Simple Song” from Leonard Bernstein’s Mass and will be accompanied by Kristin Ivers, piano and Mary Ann Bauer, flute. He will also perform “Sanctus” from Charles Gounad’s Messe pour St. Cecile accompanied by Carol Waltz on piano. A trio comprised of Leatha Kieser, Soprano; Katharine Cimini, Alto; and Ryan Workman, Tenor will sing “I Thirst” by Beverly Lowry accompanied by Carol Waltz on piano. Jon Haley, guitarist, will play “Fairest Lord Jesus” by Joseph Seiss. Kindred Spirits with Catheal Weiser, violin; Barb Babatas, vocals; Joanne Hartman, piano; Maggie Kemm, violin; Sue Umstead, flute; and Bobbie Wirth, ukulele will sing and play “I’ll Fly Away” by Albert Brumley and a medley of hymns. Nick Biddle, Tenor, accompanied by Kristin Ivers, piano, will perform “Go Rest High on That Mountain” by Vince Gill. Pierce Biddle, pianist, will play “The Old Rugged Cross” by George Bennard. Serin Heller, violinist, will perform “Come Thou Fount” by John Wyeth. Finally, the Williamsport Music Club Ensemble and Friends will perform “How Great Thou Art” by Carl Boberg and accompanied by Carol Waltz on piano.
