3 teens earn rank of Eagle Scout

At a ceremony in late January at St. John’s Newberry church three scouts received the rank of Eagle Scout from Troop 14 located at St John’s Newberry church, according to a news release.

Lucas Bower, son of Carl and Jessica Bower, of Williamsport became the 139th Eagle Scout from Troop 14 of St. John’s Newberry

He has served in many leadership positions in the Troop, such as scribe, chaplain’s aide, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, junior scoutmaster. Lucas also received the 2023 Bald Eagle District youth leadership award.

For Lucas’s Eagle Scout leadership project, he built four bookshelves, two for St Joseph the Worker Parish, one for Saint John Neumann elementary school, and one for Saint John Neumann high school. The bookshelves are for a book exchange. The bookshelves were made from wood from the former Mater Dolorosa church.

Samuel Jenkins, son of Dylan and Meg Jenkins of Williamsport became the 140th Eagle Scout in a long tradition of Eagle Scouts at Troop 14.

While at Troop 14, Samuel held the position of Senior Patrol Leader for 1.5 years, and his Eagle Scout leadership project, Samuel engineered, built, and installed a wooden structure to support nine mirrors for the St John’s School of the Arts dance studio in Williamsport.

James Stephens, son of Meghann and Toney Stephens of Hughesville PA became the 141st Eagle Scout at Troop 14.

James started his scouting career in 1st grade in Chesapeake, Virginia, but once he settled in Pennsylvania, he joined Troop 26 in Hughesville.

While a part of Troop 26, he earned all his ranks up to Life Scout. He held various leadership positions at Troop 26 including Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader, and Quartermaster. As priorities changed for James, he looked for a new Troop that fit his schedule better and joined Troop 14 to finish his Eagle rank.

James built dividers for the animal pens at the SPCA for his Eagle Scout leadership project.
