History museum plans admission discount for ‘National Train Day’

In celebration of "National Train Day," the Taber Museum will be welcoming train enthusiasts to the Museum on May 10.
According to a news release, all the visitor has to say is, "It's National Train Day" to receive a half-priced admission to tour the museum.
"LaRue C. Shempp's collection of over 300 model trains is preserved at the Lycoming County Historical Society and is on permanent display," the news release said. "The Shempp collection includes many one-of-a-kind model trains and the exhibit also includes two layouts bringing to life the excitement one feels as the model trains speed around the tracks. May 10th marks the anniversary of the Golden Spike being driven, symbolizing the completion of the first transcontinental railroad. While officially discontinued by Amtrak after 2015, many rail organizations and railfans continue to observe the day."
Located at 858 W. Fourth Street, Williamsport, the Taber Museum provides a history of the region with information about Native American culture, frontier exploration, the development of the Pennsylvania canal, immigration during the 19th century, and the logging and lumbering era of the 19th century.
The museum is open for touring Tuesdays through Fridays, 9:30 a.m to 4 p.m.; Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and, from May to October, Sundays, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
