Forksville to host 33rd annual powwow

Forksville will host is 33rd annual Powwow on Father’s Day weekend, June 14-15, at the Sullivan County Fairgrounds in Forksville.
“Bring the family to experience Native American music and dance at the Forksville Powwow,” a news release said.
Gates open at 10 a.m. and Grand Entry is scheduled at noon both days — rain or shine. Veterans and those in active service are honored during opening ceremonies during a Veterans’ dance, according to the news release. Family members are invited to join in this dance honoring their loved ones. On Sunday, bring your father into the Dance Circle for the Father’s Day Dance. Haudenosaunee social dancing by the Halsey family will be featured both days.
“The powwow draws dancers from near and far and features Native North American powwow drum groups as well as the Salinas family Aztec dancers,” the news release said. “Come sample the delicious variety of food, see beautiful handmade items for sale by vendors, participate with your family in social dances, and observe educational demonstrations.”
There is an admission fee for adults, but children 12 and under are free. The event is hosted by EDN Inc., a non-profit organization that promotes Native American cultural education, and is sponsored by the local Kiwanis of Sullivan County. The Sullivan County Fairgrounds are located at 4430 Route 154 Forksville, PA 18616, a short distance from Worlds End State Park.
