The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., and Penn State Extension will discuss dementia during a program in recognition of June as Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month.
On June 4 from 10 to 11 a.m., presenter Laurie Weinreb-Welch, Food, Families and Health Educator from the Penn State Extension, will host "Dementia Conversations," a discussion about dementia and the concerns surrounding it. The goal of the program is to raise awareness about dementia and provide support for those who have affected loved ones. Tips for how to have difficult conversations with loved ones will be mentioned in this program.
Additional topics include sensitive subjects such as driving, doctor visits, legal and financial planning, and more. Throughout the presentation, guests will have an opportunity to ask questions.
"Conversations with family members showing signs of dementia can be challenging and uncomfortable," Weinreb-Welch said. "Fear or lack of awareness that may accompany these conversations can result in delays that have serious consequences for the entire family."
The program will take place in the Lowry Room on the third floor of the Welch Children's Wing. Registration is required and may be made at calendar.jvbrown.edu or by calling the library at 570-326-0536.
