External rehabilitation of the historic Eagle Grange Hall, built in 1877 near Montgomery at the intersection of U.S. Route 15 and East Blind Road, was recently completed thanks to the splendid community support from student groups, local municipalities, individual donors and the Grange’s own fundraising efforts. Major financial donations were received from Clinton and Brady townships, old shrubbery removed by volunteers/equipment from Montgomery FFA, new planter boxes built by Montgomery High School industrial arts and a comprehensive landscaping plan designed and planted by students from the Penn College Earth Sciences Center. Eagle Grange #1 was the first Grange organized in the state of Pennsylvania and has been continuously active since 1871. About 24 students from the Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Earth Sciences Center participated in the development of the landscaping plan earlier in the academic year and then this spring planted the shrubbery and perennials supplied by the Grange. The group’s advisor coordinating the project was Carl Bower Jr., professor of horticulture.
