Union County libraries to offer laptop lending

The Union County Library System recently announced its participation in the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority’s Digital Connectivity Technology Program.

According to a news release, beginning May 12, library patrons age 18 and older who are in good standing may borrow laptops from any of the three library locations:

• Herr Memorial Library, Mifflinburg

• The Public Library for Union County, Lewisburg

• West End Library, Laurelton

This program supports the libraries’ ongoing mission to close the digital divide in Union County. Laptops are the latest addition to the collection of digital tools available for checkout, complementing the existing Wi-Fi hotspot lending program. While laptops and hotspots are separate items and must be borrowed individually, together they offer flexible solutions for staying connected.

“Laptops are ideal for remote work, online learning, job searching, completing school assignments, telehealth appointments, and staying connected with loved ones,” the news release said. “Whether at home or on the go, they provide essential access to technology and information.”

Laptops may be borrowed for one week and can be renewed for up to two additional weeks, provided there are no pending holds, the news release said. Borrowers must be 18 or older, hold an active library card in good standing, present a valid driver’s license or state-issued ID card (a copy will be held securely during the loan), and sign the UCLS Laptop Lending Agreement. Laptops must be returned in person to the same library from which they were checked out.

Late fees, replacement costs, and usage policies apply. Full terms can be found at: bit.ly/Policies_UCLS

This project was financed in part by a grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority.

Starting at $2.99/week.
