Chorus invites women to join in singing

The Heart of PA Women’s Chorus (HOP) is a group of women from all around central Pennsylvania — from Harrisburg to Williamsport — who love to sing, connect with friends old and new and develop their skills.

“HOP is a proud member of Harmony, Inc., which is an international, non-profit organization whose purpose is to empower all women through education, friendship and a cappella singing in the barbershop style,” a news release said. “We meet at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1050 Buffalo Road, Lewisburg, on Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. All people identifying as women are welcome — from car-karaoke queens to professional performers!”

The group is hosting Summer Sing Events Aug. 14, 21, 28, and Sept. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. During these events visitors can try the chorus out by “attending a series of regular HOP rehearsals where we learn a new song (You’ve Got a Friend in Me, from Toy Story) from the ground up,” the news release said, culminating in a Community Sing-out on Sept. 4 at 8 p.m.

Previous music experience is helpful, but not necessary – several current members do not read music.

“Participating in Summer Sing, or dropping in on a rehearsal, is a great way to see what HOP is about, forge new friendships, and participate in building something bigger than the sum of its parts – harmony,” the news release said.

For more information about the Summer Sing, dropping in on one of the rehearsals, or to book the chorus or one of the group’s affiliated quartets for a private event or concert, please contact the chorus by emailing president@heartofpa.org.

Starting at $2.99/week.
